Warning Description: Excessive Heat Watch Warning Date: 4:53 PM MST on September 2, 2010/ WarningSum:...Excessive Heat Watch Remains In Effect From Saturday Afternoon Through Saturday Evening... Warning Message:An excessive heat watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening for portions of southern Nevada... southeast California and northwest Arizona...for the elevations below 4000 feet. * Expected temperature: temperatures are expected to be around 107 degrees in the Las Vegas Valley...around 108 to 112 degrees from Mesquite south down the Colorado River...108 degrees in Barstow... and 118 degrees in Death Valley. * Greatest impact areas: with recent high temperatures only being in the 90s last week and early this week...and it being so late in the Summer the human body is more susceptible to heat stress this time of year. Plan any outdoor activity in the morning or evening hours after sunset. Precautionary/preparedness actions... An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors.
